Piano isn’t hard. It’s badly taught.

Most of us were taught piano backwards: scales first, music later, maybe. In this free 90-minute live lesson, Stephen turns it the right way round. You’ll start with the songs you already love and see the simple pattern underneath them.

Free. 90 minutes. You don’t need a piano.

It’s not too late to play piano.

50+the age most Ridley students are over

Nearly everyone in the room on Sunday has wondered the same thing. Did I leave it too late? Are my hands too old for this now?

For most people age is far less of a barrier than they have been led to believe, and Stephen shows you why in the first 10 minutes.

If piano never clicked, you weren’t the problem. The order was.

Most people in the room on Sunday have tried before: a teacher as a child, an app, a stack of books, hours of videos. Two out of three had a real teacher at some point and still walked away thinking they just weren’t musical.

They were taught backwards. First the scales, the drills and the decoding of a page, and the music would come later. For most people it never did.

Stephen does it in the opposite order. You start with the song and learn everything else through it. Once you see it that way round, the instrument stops feeling hard.

90 minutes, taught the right way round.

Stephen teaches it himself, live, at the piano. On Sunday you’ll learn:

  • the one simple idea underneath the songs you already know
  • what your left hand is actually for
  • how people start playing by ear instead of decoding a page

Then he stays on to answer your questions. It’s a real lesson, it’s free, and you don’t need a keyboard to follow along.

No keyboard needed, and nothing to download.

The man teaching you on Sunday.

Stephen learned on a battered street piano, not in a conservatory. Nobody handed him a method book, so he had to find the structure hiding inside real songs, and that accident became the thing he now teaches.

He built the method on stage rather than in a classroom. He has performed in more than 60 countries and for crowds of 40,000, and turned the way he taught himself into the method more than 40,000 students now learn from. On Sunday he is at the piano teaching it himself, live.

People who thought it was too late.

Within one year Glenwood was playing with both hands and reading music.

Before you register.

Is it really free?

Yes. The masterclass is free to attend, and you do not need a card to register. Stephen teaches for 90 minutes and stays on to answer questions.

Do I need a piano or a keyboard?

No. Bring a pen and some paper. If you have an instrument you are welcome to sit at it, but nothing on Sunday needs one.

What if I have never played a note?

You will be completely at home. Stephen teaches Sunday assuming no previous experience, and a good part of the room has never sat at a piano.

Do I need to read music?

No. Plenty of Ridley students never learned to read music before they started, and some still do not. Sunday assumes you are starting from nothing.

I am in my sixties or seventies. Is this for me?

Yes. Most Ridley students are over 50, and the ages run from 5 to 96. Nearly everyone in the room on Sunday arrived thinking they had left it too late.

What happens after I register?

Your link to join arrives by email straight away. If you give us your mobile number we will also text you a reminder shortly before Stephen goes live, so the link is easy to find on the day.

How do I join on the day?

Click the link in your email. It opens in your browser on a phone, a tablet or a computer, and there is nothing to download or install.

Piano isn’t hard. You were just taught it backwards.

Bring the song you’ve always wanted to play. Give Stephen 90 minutes on Sunday.
