How Stephen sees chords across the keyboard
Instead of memorising hundreds of disconnected notes, you’ll see how Stephen uses chords and recurring patterns to understand what is happening inside a song.
Watch Stephen break down the piano LIVE — and show you how chords, patterns and playing by ear can make the songs you love suddenly start to make sense.

We recently asked 556 Ridley Academy students and followers what they actually wanted from our next live event.
The message was clear.
You wanted more live demonstrations. You wanted to learn about chords and scales. You wanted to see how Stephen plays by ear.
And most of all, you didn’t want another unnecessarily long webinar.
So we’re doing something different.
And he’s going to show you exactly how he sees the instrument.
You’ll watch him play.
You’ll hear the difference.
And he’ll break down what he’s doing so you can begin to see the patterns behind the music for yourself.
Yes — I want to watch Stephen live →Free to attend. No credit card required.
Instead of memorising hundreds of disconnected notes, you’ll see how Stephen uses chords and recurring patterns to understand what is happening inside a song.
Stephen will demonstrate how he listens to music, recognises what’s happening and begins finding it on the piano.
It can look like magic when you don’t understand it. Once somebody shows you what’s happening underneath, it starts making a lot more sense.
The songs you love aren’t made from thousands of random pieces. There are structures, relationships and patterns hiding underneath them.
Stephen will show you some of them live.
Rather than spending months practising exercises before you’re allowed anywhere near real music, you’ll see how Stephen approaches music from the song first.
If you’ve ever looked at 88 keys and wondered how anyone knows what to do with them, this demonstration is for you.
Stephen’s goal is to make the keyboard look very different to you by the end of the hour.
That’s important.
Because when we asked what would make people more likely to attend our next event, live piano demonstrations came out comfortably on top.
So that’s what this event is built around.
Stephen won’t spend an hour talking over slides. He’ll be at the piano, showing you the ideas as he explains them.
See it. Hear it. Understand it.
Then start imagining what could be possible at your own piano.

“I’ve had eight piano teachers, and I learned more from the Ridley Academy than all the others combined.”David Clarke, verified Trustpilot review
Perfect.
You don’t need to know how to read music.
You don’t need to understand chords.
You don’t need to know your scales.
And you don’t even need to have a piano beside you during the demonstration.
Just watch.
Stephen will start from the fundamentals and show you how the pieces begin fitting together.
Whether you’ve never played before, tried lessons years ago, learned as a child and stopped, or have been playing for years but still feel stuck, this hour is for you.

Stephen learned on a battered street piano, not in a conservatory. Nobody handed him a method book, so he had to find the structure hiding inside real songs, and that accident became the thing he now teaches.
He built the method on stage rather than in a classroom. He has performed in more than 60 countries and for crowds of 40,000, and turned the way he taught himself into the method more than 40,000 students now learn from. On Tuesday he is at the piano, live, showing you how it works.
Within one year Glenwood was playing with both hands and reading music.
Carlos reached the goal he set himself in under six months. His verdict was simply “worth it.”
