- [A scale is not a list of notes. It is an emotion.](https://ridleyacademy.net/what-a-scale-actually-is): Most people meet scales as homework. Stephen Ridley's definition reframes them completely — and it explains what you are actually reaching for when you learn one.
- [Barefoot and broken: the line in the song that is literally true](https://ridleyacademy.net/barefoot-and-broken): The Ridley Academy has its own song, written with its students. One line in the second verse is not poetry — it is a plain description of how Stephen actually started.
- [Clearwater Musical Retreat with Stephen Ridley](https://ridleyacademy.net/clearwater-retreat): 5–9 November 2026, Clearwater, Florida. Four days of music with Stephen Ridley and his coaches. Secure your place with a $2,500 deposit.
- [Close your eyes and it gets more beautiful](https://ridleyacademy.net/play-by-ear-close-your-eyes): Playing by ear is not a talent you were born with or without. Stephen Ridley's method for building it takes one change to something you can already play.
- [Expanded chords: putting more singers in the choir](https://ridleyacademy.net/expanded-chords): A chord is just more than one note played together. Stephen's way of hearing that turns theory into something you can feel.

- [How many keys do you actually need?](https://ridleyacademy.net/how-many-keys-do-you-need): The keyboard Stephen Ridley plays costs about $400, and he gives an honest answer on 61 keys versus 88 — including what you genuinely lose.

- [The finger exercise you can do in bed](https://ridleyacademy.net/finger-exercise-without-a-piano): One of the fifteen coordination exercises, taught live — and the small rule that makes it work: never move your fingers in order.
- [The keep-it-going pedal](https://ridleyacademy.net/keep-it-going-pedal): Most beginners are frightened of the pedal. Stephen renames it, and in doing so removes the reason to be.

- [Tone, tone, semitone: one pattern instead of 1,800 notes](https://ridleyacademy.net/major-scale-pattern): Stephen Ridley spent 15 years memorising scales the traditional way before working out that you only ever need to learn one pattern — and the fastest way to learn it involves walking around your house shouting.
